Abstract

Objective: To verify the relationship between Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and maternal knowledge about this syndrome. Methods: This was an integrative literature review with articles published between 2015 and 2022. The string “(Sudden infant death syndrome)” and (maternal knowledge)” were applied to the Scielo database and the string “(sudden infant death syndrome) and (mother knowledge)” on the PubMed platform. Then, in the articles found, the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. Results: Twenty works that met the proposed criteria were evaluated, of which only one was national research and the others were international. There is good dissemination of SIDS among mothers or caregivers. However, the social environment can influence the adoption of unsafe practices, such as advice from friends that go against the guidelines of health professionals, as well as resistance from caregivers, who do not feel comfortable or who find such recommendations unnecessary. The best educational level is associated with best practices regarding safe sleep. Conclusion: Although campaigns have publicized the SIDS, there is still a portion of the population that does not know the situation or does not understand the need to put the appropriate recommendations into practice.
