Abstract
Objective: To analyze whether the practice of sports throughout life and in old age is beneficial or harmful to the knees of individuals in this age group. Methods: The study to be developed is of a quantitative nature, with a cross-sectional, primary, observational and descriptive approach. A questionnaire consisting of 14 questions was applied in order to obtain the necessary information to achieve the objectives of the study, which are to analyze the effects on the knee, positive or negative, of the practice of sports in elderly individuals and, if possible, to determine those sports that are more beneficial or harmful to individuals in this age group. Results: The sampling revealed that only 57.6% of exercise practitioners complain of joint pain, while 69.2% of non-practitioners have the same complaint. When we also observe those who have practiced exercises throughout their lives, we see that 62.5% suffer from joint pain and among those who have never practiced, 71.4% suffer from pain. Conclusion: It is concluded that, proportionally, those who practice or have practiced physical exercises have less knee pain than those who do not practice or have never practiced.
