Abstract
Objective: To present scientific works that show the impact of quadrivalent vaccination against HPV in the decrease in the incidence of cervical cancer; as a way of ratifying the importance of primary prevention in one of the main public health problems in women’s health. Bibliographic review: Cervical cancer is responsible for a significant number of deaths in women of different age groups in different parts of the world. Its occurrence has been widely associated with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which causes an excessive rate of cell replication with tumor evolution. However, with the advent of vaccines for some HPV genotypes, the number of cases of cervical cancer associated with this infection has drastically reduced, especially in developing countries. The vaccines currently available in the world comprise bivalent, quadrivalent and nineth-valent. In Brazil, after the inclusion of HPV vaccination in the National Immunization Program in 2014, there was a reduction in the number of diagnosed cervical cancer cases. Final considerations: The works presented lead to the conclusion that vaccination against HPV is effective in reducing the incidence of pre-neoplastic lesions related to cervical cancer; which contributes to the reduction of morbidity and mortality of previously vaccinated women.
