Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the consequences of screen abuse in children up to 6 years old. Methods: An integrative literature review was carried out. The Health Science Descriptors used in English were: screen time, television, child. The databases used were: Virtual Health Library (VHL), National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE). Results: Significant consequences were observed, such as changes in cognitive, speech, and psychosocial development, changes in sleep metrics, impairment in working memory development, onset of psychiatric symptoms, accumulation of fatty tissue in the abdominal region, and a relationship with worsening of the condition of patients already diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Final considerations: Excessive exposure to screens has a negative impact on the development of children. Therefore, it is essential to control the use of these technologies from the first contact, in addition to active supervision.
