Abstract
Objective: To analyze the characteristics of coping strategies and aspects of work engagement from the perspective of the nursing team. Methods: It was configured as a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research. Data were collected from interviews carried out through questionnaires with semi-structured questions. The research obtained a sample of 250 nursing professionals from a university hospital in the south of Brazil, of both sexes, aged between 23 and 64 years and working time in the hospital from 1 to more than 20 years. The analysis was performed through content analysis divided into categories by the method of Bardin (2011). Results: It was found that different ways of coping with stressful situations were used, with the search for health professionals being the most common. In addition, most expressed commitment to work, with emphasis on the category “commitment, dedication and responsibility”. Conclusion: The identification of these characteristics can help to understand phenomena related to occupational stress and engagement at work. The study highlighted the importance of developing programs aimed at evaluating, preventing and valuing workers and helping them to cope with stressful situations.
