Abstract

Objective: To analyze the maternal-fetal outcome of the use of Lithium during pregnancy. Methods: The integrative review research followed steps, in which a search was carried out in databases and virtual libraries: U.S National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Virtual Health Library (BVS) Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Literature Latin America and the Caribbean in Health Sciences (LILACS), with the crossing of the descriptors "Pregnancy" & "Lithium". Seven articles were selected for the research, and all were in English and in the VHL database. Results: All authors used the pregnant public and/or their children with lithium intervention. It was observed that 28.57% (n=2) associated the use of the medication with negative outcomes for the maternal-fetal population, and one of them associates it with bipolar disorder, regardless of the use of the medication. Already 71.42% (n=5) of the studies validated its useful effects when related to the risk-benefit of the use of lithium. Final considerations: Although the data are divergent, most report that the choice for therapy should be directed, giving importance to the individualization of the case and showing safety in the therapy with lithium. In addition, the scarcity of clear studies on the treatment is confirmed, requiring further research.
