Abstract

Objective: To analyze the experience of conjugality of serodifferent couples marked by the confrontation of conflicts due to the human immunodeficiency virus. Methods: This is a descriptive study, of a qualitative nature, related to the perception of serodifferent couples about coping with HIV. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews in person and through the online platform, carried out with eight couples, in which only one of the partners that make up the couple has a positive diagnosis for HIV. The research was carried out in a university hospital in northeastern Brazil, a reference for people with HIV/AIDS. Result: Prejudice and the experience of secrecy were the challenges most cited by the interviewees, since many couples prefer to live the secret of the diagnosis than to run the risk of suffering social prejudice, even claiming that they do not experience prejudice because the health condition does not is known by people in their social environment. Conclusion: it is evident that the conjugality of serodifferent couples presents several challenges in their experience, such as: the social stigma of the disease, the lack of commitment of people living with the virus to adhere to the regular use of antiretroviral therapy, added to the fear of viral transmission.
