Abstract

Objective: To describe the profile of pregnant women affected by accidents involving venomous animals that occurred in Brazil between 2009 and 2021, through the assessment of records made available by SINAN. Methods: The variables observed are: Region, age, race, zone of occurrence, time elapsed since the bite and the service, evolution and the presence of systemic and local complications, for simple descriptive statistical analysis using the Stata 13.0 software. Results: During this period, 17947 cases of accidents by venomous animals involving pregnant women were reported in Brazil. In this clipping, the sociodemographic profile of the pregnant victims found is aged between 20 and 39 years, mostly brown and white and belonging to urban areas. Most of the accidents involving pregnant women and venomous animals fit as “mild”, with very low rates of local and systemic complications, generally involving pregnant women in the second and third trimester, with a time to seek care with a reference of less than 1h, the which corroborates the high cure rates. Conclusion: Due to the low rates, there is a need to implement safety and prevention measures for the pregnant woman's health, corroborating the epidemiological surveillance of this underreported and neglected condition, through encouragement and continuity of scientific production on the subject.
