Abstract
Objective: To evaluate and compare the care provided to the elderly in primary health care before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: Crosssectional, quantitative, retrospective study, with before and during analysis. The information presented is from 15,135 elderly people from 17 Basic Health Units. The period before the pandemic was from 03/01/2019 to 02/29/2020 and during the pandemic 03/01/2020 to 02/28/2021. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyzes were performed. For the comparison of two independent groups, the Mann-Whitney test was chosen, considering a significance level of 5% and a confidence interval of 95%. Results: There was a significant decrease in several procedures: blood pressure measurement, weight check, height check, medication administration, capillary blood glucose check, grade I dressing, collection of cytopathological material, inhalation/nebulizatio n, care home of the nursing technician and physician. However, there was an increase in the number of procedures for performing grade II dressings. There was no statistically significant change in the number of procedures for temperature measurement, indwelling bladder catheterization, urinary catheter for relief, gastric catheterization and home visits by the community health agent and nurse. Conclusion: The imposed pandemic condition directly interfered in the assistance activities of primary health care. The results of the study showed that the numbers of calls reduced during the covid-19 pandemic, however, it is recommended that managers analyze the results to carry out the planning of actions aimed at the health of the elderly after the pandemic.
