Abstract
Objective: To present a review of the clinical and epidemiological profile of chondromyxoid fibroma. Methods: Searches were carried out through an integrative review of cases of chondromyxoid fibroma. Results: The chondromyxoid fibroma (FCM) has cartilaginous origin, being a benign and rare tumor with minimal possibility of malignant transformation. The diagnosis must be careful due to the similarity with chondrosarcoma, chondroblastoma, chondroma, osteosarcoma and myxoma. Treatment can be done by curettage, enucleation or en bloc excision with favorable prognosis and little recurrence. The distribution between the sexes is equivalent. The average age is 30.7 years, and its signs and symptoms are varied. The cases most observed in the head occurred in the sphenoid and ethmoid bones, followed by the mandible and maxilla. Its occurrence in the skull does not follow a pattern and can appear in any segment. The imaging study is mandatory for determining the diagnosis and adequate treatment. Final considerations: The surgeon needs to be attentive to define a correct evaluation and diagnosis for rare lesions such as in cases of FCM. Likewise, it is necessary to keep the patient alert about possible relapses, as well as carry out periodic reassessments in a preventive manner. The occurrence of recurrence requires prompt intervention to minimize sequelae to the patient.
