Abstract
Objective: To perform an integrative literature review about the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome (BS) in resident physicians from several specialties, as well as its associated risk factors. Methods: Integrative literature review, in which the research was based on review articles about the prevalence of BS in resident physicians. Studies were collected from the electronic databases Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MedLine/PubMed), The Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Acervo + Index Base from November 20-25, 2022. The indexers used were "burnout and residents or trainees", "burnout among residents or trainees" and "residency and burnout". Results: The final sample consisted of 14 articles, of which nine were cross-sectional studies (64.28%), one randomized clinical trial (7.14%), and four systematic reviews (28.57%). All articles included in this review used the Maslach Burnout Inventory as the method of BS assessment. Final considerations: There are still few conclusions regarding the relationship between BS and marital status of resident physicians. Pediatric residents present the highest prevalence of BS, especially those working in the public health system. Several practices have been implemented aiming at reducing the conditions that cause BS.
