Abstract

Objective: Identify the most common findings found in EDA in patients at a hospital, in the city of Belém-PA. Methods: This is an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study, through the analysis of reports of upper digestive endoscopies (EDA) performed in patients at a hospital in Belém-PA, during 2019, identifying the main findings of these exams. Results: 1358 patients were included in the study and the mean age was 54 years. Almost all individuals (98.2%) had gastric alterations. 5.7% (77 individuals) had duodenal changes. 36.2% of the individuals had esophageal alterations. 0.8% (11 individuals) had exams suggestive of neoplasms, only 25 (1.8%) of them did not present any alteration in the endoscopy. Among the patients with gastric alterations, 990 (73.3%) had enanthematous gastritis of the antrum. In duodenal alterations, 71.4% of the individuals had erosive bulboduodenitis. Most (90.8%) of the findings in the esophagus were erosive esophagitis. As for findings suggestive of neoplasms, 72.7% of them were found in the stomach. The association between sex, age group and the presence of alterations was verified. Conclusion: Performing a quality EDA and its correct indication is essential for accurate diagnoses. The main pathologies found were of inflammatory origin, in addition to pre-malignant and malignant lesions.
