Abstract

Objective: Synthesize, according to scientific evidence available, the main communication strategies applied in the care of children and adolescents in pediatric dentistry treatment. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with articles published between 1998 and 2021, in Portuguese, English and Spanish with full text available. It was used as a guiding question: “Based on current scientific evidence, what are the communication strategies used in the care of children and adolescents in dentistry?” The research was carried out in August 2022, in the Pubmed, Scielo and BVS databases. Results: Of 237 studies found, 14 made up the final sample, which in turn described numerous communication strategies, verbal and non-verbal, among which the following stand out: use of video, drawings, written instructions, sign language, music, tactile, olfactory, verbal and visual stimuli. Final considerations: In view of the positive influence that the identified strategies can exert in the treatment of child and adolescent patients, it is necessary that new studies be carried out with this theme.
