Abstract
Objective: To review studies about the main sleep disorders that affect the pediatric population, taking into account their clinical manifestations and available treatments. Bibliographic review: Sleep, a vital process for maintaining the body's homeostasis, is of paramount importance in child and youth development, as it is fundamental for reinvigorating the body and brain. Therefore, a circadian pattern occurs for each pediatric age group in order to meet the physiological needs of the corresponding growth period. However, this natural cycle is often disrupted by sleep disorders (SD), which have become prevalent complaints in pediatric offices. Final considerations: Parasomnias make up a heterogeneous group of syndromes that impair patients' sleep. In the pediatric population, they can compromise their development and health. The knowledge of professionals about this set of diseases is vital for the correct diagnosis and subsequent treatment in a timely manner, avoiding unfavorable outcomes.
