Abstract

Objective: To analyze the hospital mortality rate (HST) for severe acute respiratory syndrome by COVID-19, in the 0-19 years age group (subdivided into six groups), in Brazil, according to year of occurrence and Metropolitan and Interior Region. Methods: Ecological study with public data from the Epidemiological Surveillance System SIVEP-Gripe. The open access software R version 4.0.4 was used. Pearson's Chi-square test was performed to evaluate the differences of TMH of the study variables, considering significance level of 5%. Results: The highest TMH were found in those who used invasive ventilatory support, as much as doubling in 2021 in the inner 6 to 9 years age group. The presence of a risk factor was important in OHM regardless of location. The interior presented higher MST in relation to the metropolitan region.   Conclusion: High MST is noteworthy, being exponential in the interior. Studies that evaluate different populations in different locations can serve as a subsidy for targeted promotion and prevention actions and contingency plans.
