Abstract
Objective: To identify and evaluate clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of patients with osteosarcoma in a state philanthropic Cancer Hospital. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted by 15 medical records of patients admitted to the Orthopedic Oncology service, with inclusion criteria: diagnosis of osteosarcoma located in the distal femur in the period 2014 to 2018. cases per year, presence of pulmonary metastasis and surgery performed. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics using the Rstudio software. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: 13 patients with osteosarcoma in the distal femur. Male gender 61.5%, mean age 21.8 years, city with the highest number of cases was João Pessoa, years 2016-17 occurred in greater numbers, metastatic 23% and higher occurrence of amputations 73%. Conclusion: Unpublished study in the State, demonstrates data that corroborate with the national literature, are important due to the great extension of Brazil and its genetic heterogeneity. However, it has limitations regarding the number of patients, stimulating new regional studies.
