Abstract
Objective: To describe socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, self-esteem and sexual satisfaction/performance among elderly women living in the community. Methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional and observational study, carried out with 136 elderly women, in a city of Minas Gerais, Brazil, via telephone contact, between October 2020 and May 2021. Were included women aged 60 or over, residing in urban areas, who were able to answer the questions by telephone. Socioeconomic and demographic data, self-esteem and female sexual satisfaction/performance were analyzed using the SPSS software. Results: There was a predominance of elderly women aged between 70 and 79 years, white, Catholic, widows, with incomplete primary education and family income between 2 and 4 minimum wages. Regarding self-esteem, there was an average score of 9.02 points. Of the 136 elderly participants, 17.65% reported having had sexual intercourse in the last six months. Of these, the average score obtained in the Female Sexual Quotient was 59.58 points, and 44% were classified as having sexual satisfaction/performance unfavorable to fair. Conclusion: The elderly had high self-esteem; however, the low percentages of those who maintain an active sex life and satisfaction with sexual satisfaction/performance stood out, pointing to the need for health professionals to be attentive to the specific demands of elderly women.
