Abstract
Objective: To identify scientific evidence that discusses the effect of acupuncture on labor. Methods: This is an integrative literature review study carried out in LILACS, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus and Web Of Science databases, in September 2022. The selection of studies and data extraction were performed by two reviewers. independent. Initially the search returned 48 productions, where after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five were selected to compose the sample of this review. The classification of the level of evidence was based on the levels proposed by Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt. Results: Among the identified effects, the following stand out: pain relief, reduction of obstetric complications, reduction in the number of cesarean sections, shorter duration of labor and less postpartum bleeding. Final considerations: Acupuncture is a method that has beneficial effects when used during labor. The health professional needs to know the technique to apply it and adequately guide the woman, ensuring a more humanized assistance that provides maternal-fetal health.
