Abstract
Objective: To describe the profile of patients with Gastric Cancer (GC) assisted in Oncology referral hospitals in the State of Pará from 2011 to 2020. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Secondary data from the public domain were used, obtained by consulting the Integrator of Hospital Cancer Records (HCR). Results: A total of 2,322 cases were included in the analysis. Most patients were male (68.60%), aged between 60 and 64 years (15.71%), with incomplete primary education (48.62%), former smokers (48.75%) and former alcoholics (34.02%). Adenocarcinoma was the predominant histological pattern (59.17%) and the staging was advanced (grade IV) in 21.40% of the cases. Conclusion: The epidemiological investigation of the GC is of great relevance as it allows the optimization of clinical and social variables that may be related to the disease. The potential of HCRs in the production and dissemination of data that are useful for the planning of local policies aimed at reducing morbidity and mortality from the disease, influenced by unequal conditions of risk and access to health services, is evident.
