Abstract
Objective: To describe the socio-epidemiological profile of children hospitalized with COVID-19 and the degree of dependence on nursing care in pediatric intensive care in a city in Rio de Janeiro. Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study, carried out from March to December 2020, whose sample was consisting of 10 medical records of children with COVID-19 in a city in the north of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For data collection, a form was used to characterize the participants. Analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis, Pearson and Mann-Whitney correlation coefficients for the variables. Results: The general variable was 70% male, 50% under one year old. Clinical manifestations: acute respiratory failure, acute lymphoid leukemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, juvenile arthritis, chronic respiratory failure and sepsis. Hospitalization ranged from 5 days to 15 days with a prevalence of semi-intensive care. Conclusion: In this study, the need to apply the patient classification system as a fundamental tool for understanding the profile of children and adolescents and their demands for nursing care as a human resource management strategy was identified.
