Abstract
Objective: To get information available in the literature about the influence of natural and artificial lighting and the architecture of healthcare environments on the health of intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Methods: This is an integrative review, using the databases ScienceDirect and Scopus. Inclusion criteria were: publications related to healthcare environment architecture, natural lighting and artificial lighting, specifically in the ICU environment, in any language, considering only works published in the last 5 years. The exclusion criteria were duplicate studies and those that did not correspond to the objective of the review. Results: The final sample had 19 publications where the analyzes were carried out according to the points raised (natural lighting in the ICU, artificial lighting in the ICU and architecture of health environments (ICU). Final considerations: It is considered that natural and artificial lighting goes beyond patient comfort, also impacting the quality of their sleep. Considering available technologies, if applied in the ICU space, this may represent a better response to treatment and a decrease in length of stay.
