Abstract

Objective: to identify the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients undergoing mitral valve replacement surgery admitted to the reference hospital in cardiology during the period from January 2018 to December 2020. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, observational and retrospective in a cardiology reference hospital in Belém do Pará, with analysis of secondary data of patients undergoing mitral valve replacement surgery from January 2018 to December 2020. Data from 70 medical records were analyzed and the clinical and epidemiological profile was traced. Results: there was a prevalence of females, aged between 28 and 50 years, with low wage income and education. The main cause of mitral stenosis was degenerative and that of mitral insufficiency was valve prolapse. As for the clinical sign, the most relevant finding was dyspnea. Conclusion: It is concluded that the clinical picture presented by the patients was heart failure and low cardiac output and that the comorbidities related to the populations of mitral stenosis and mitral regurgitation were considered independent, and therefore not specific to a given group.
