Abstract
Objective: To identify the main clinical and epidemiological aspects of peristomal skin complications in ostomized patients. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out in the SciELO, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases, using the following descriptors: “peristomal”, “skin”, “complicances” and “complications”. Studies published between 2018 and 2022 that analyzed the clinical-epidemiological burden of peristomal complications in adult patients with some type of ostomy were included. Results: Seven articles made up the final sample of this study, with a higher frequency of retrospective studies (n: 04). The main peristomal complications identified were: irritative dermatitis, peristomal wound, retraction and mechanical trauma. Other complications included erythema, edema, peristomal secretion and pain, papules, pustules and vesicles, pruritus, follicolitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, fungal rash and granuloma. Final considerations: It is considered that there is a high incidence of peristomal complications in ostomized patients, so that the management of these complications plays a critical role in improving the quality of life of these patients.
