Abstract
Objective: To characterize hospital admissions for mental and behavioral disorders in the municipalities of the Maciço de Baturité region, located in the interior of the State of Ceará, between 2015 and 2021. Methods: This is an epidemiological, quantitative, retrospective, longitudinal study of exploratory and analytical character, through data recorded in the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) between the years 2015-2021. Results: 920 hospital admissions for mental and behavioral disorders in the region were recorded in the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), with 2018 being the year with the highest number of records. Most hospitalizations (54.7%) occurred due to the diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizotypal disorders and delusional disorders. Regarding length of stay, patients hospitalized for mental and behavioral disorders in the region remained hospitalized for approximately 30.69 days. Most hospitalizations registered were male patients (65%) and urgently (73.4%). Conclusion: It is notable that mental disorders have a negative impact on the quality of life of their patients, therefore, the need for the development of health policies and the improvement of outpatient and hospital care for the prevention and treatment of mental disorders is highlighted. with emphasis on schizophrenic disorders.
