Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the reasons, risks and benefits of the use of Psychotropic Drugs (FP) in pregnant women. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, between 2019-2022, from the MEDLINE, SciELO and LILACS databases through descriptors in Portuguese and English, with full text available for reading. A total of 213 articles were identified, of which 91 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After reading and critical analysis, 11 articles were chosen to compose the sample universe of this review. Results: Major depressive disorder was the most prevalent reason for medical prescription during pregnancy with 36.2%. In addition, an average of 26.55% of the pregnant women used some psychotropic drug during the pregnancy period. The most used drug classes were in this order: tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), anxiolytics and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). The presence of major fetal adverse effects associated with FP was verified, such as Ebstein's anomaly, neonatal abstention syndrome (NAS) and low birth weight. Final considerations: It was found that the safety of prescribing FP during pregnancy is not yet well understood, however, there are studies that have already proven that some drugs are less teratogenic, preserving the health of the mother-baby binomial.
