Abstract
Objective: To map and validate NANDA-I nursing diagnoses for children and adolescents with cancer in hospitalized palliative care. Methods: Cross-mapping between the terms present in the nurses' evolutions and the NANDA-I Standardized Language System of nursing diagnoses. The sample consisted of 57 medical records of children and adolescents with cancer in exclusive palliative care who were hospitalized, from January 2008 to December 2018. The mapped diagnoses were validated by five expert judges, using the Validity Index of Content. Results: 333 terms were identified in the medical records, of which 158 were included in the mapping through the analysis of exact or partial combination with the defining characteristics, related factors and associated conditions present in the NANDA-I diagnoses. Thus, 80 nursing diagnoses were mapped, of which 71 were validated by the judges and 9 were rejected. Conclusion: in clinical practice, validated nursing diagnoses can contribute to the organization of the Nursing Process directed at the hospitalized population of children and adolescents with cancer, helping in clinical reasoning, allowing nurses to define more accurate diagnoses.
