Abstract
Objective: To investigate the main factors associated with chronic noncommunicable diseases in the elderly population. Methods: An integrative review study carried out by searching for data in PubMed, the Cochrane Library and the Virtual Health Library (VHL). The selection of studies took place between October and December 2022, using the descriptors: Chronic Diseases, Aged and Risk Factors. The Boolean operator AND was applied to correlate subjects. Results: This review consisted of 13 productions, published between 2019 and 2022, eight indexed in PubMed, four in VHL and one in Cochrane. The analysis of the studies resulted in the survey of three thematic units (UT): UT1 - Risk factors for CNCD related to aging, health conditions and life habits; UT2 - Socioeconomic, demographic and psychosocial conditions associated with the risk of CNCD; and UT3 - Longitudinal exposure to risk factors for CNCD and health problems. Final considerations: This study revealed that, in addition to biological factors, one should consider and understand that demographic, socioeconomic and psychological conditions longitudinally influence the emergence and worsening of chronic diseases, especially in the elderly population.
