Abstract

Objective: To analyze the self-care of patients with heart failure followed by a specialized clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, carried out in a specialized multidisciplinary clinic, during follow-up by telephone consultation. The Brazilian Version of the European Heart Failure Self-care Behavior Scale instrument was used, data were collected between April and July 2021. Results: The sample had an average of 25.64 (±6.53). The highest percentages in score 5 (strongly disagree) were evidenced in the items corresponding to the actions of seeking help in gaining weight in a short period of time, daily weight monitoring and performing regular physical exercise. The highest percentages in score 1 (totally agree) were found in the items corresponding to the actions of following pharmacological treatment, ingesting a low-salt diet and taking the flu vaccine annually. Conclusion: The sample of this study showed satisfactory self-care behavior, demonstrating that patients followed by telephone consultation during social distancing remain engaged and empowered to perform self-care.
