Abstract

Objective: Identify the information about COVID-19 obtained by users of a basic health unit in a municipality in the state of Paraíba, and its translation into prevention and control practices against the coronavirus.  Methods: This is an observational survey, with a quantitative approach, based on the collection of primary data with 85 families enrolled in the aforementioned health unit, through interviews guided by a structured questionnaire. Data were tabulated according to the responses of the families interviewed, in the form of absolute and relative frequency. Results: It can be observed that most families considered that wearing a mask, frequent hand washing and physical distancing are important in preventing and controlling the spread of COVID-19. It was also observed that the sources of information that influenced the perception of disease prevention and control measures were tv and radio news, social networks and friends and, to a lesser extent, health professionals and government actions. Conclusion: Adherence to prevention strategies was hampered in 2020 due to the lack of intergovemmental articulation and the excess of divergent information about COVID-19.
