Abstract
Objective: To analyze the importance of health education in the working process of social workers in the health field through an experience report. Experience report: This is the experience of residents of the Social Service center, members of the Integrated Multiprofessional Residency Program in Family Health, in the hospital environment. In which, during the rotation period carried out in a hospital in the city of recife, a cycle of social-educational actions was developed as a strategy to enhance the professional exercise of Social Service in the defense of health policy and guarantee rights. The themes 'Violence against women', 'Rights of children and adolescents', 'Rights of people with cancer' and 'Violence against the elderly' were approached, with the participation of 128 people. Final considerations: Health education is one of the main instruments of the social worker's professional work in the health field, and provides opportunities for social participation of users and democratization of knowledge. Therefore, the socio-educational actions carried out in this experience are in line with the reformist project of the Unified Health System (SUS), walking hand in hand with the defense of health policy as a right of the population and a duty of the State.
