Abstract

Objective: To describe strategies for the prevention of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods: An integrative review of the scientific literature was carried out by crossing descriptors in the Medline/PubMed and Embase data platforms, and 19 articles were selected. Results: Most articles brought the use of intravenous hydration as a primary prevention method for induced nephropathy by contrast, trimetazidine was approached in studies as a component present together with intravenous hydration and those patients who used it had a lower incidence of CIN. The articles cited N-acetylcysteine as a medication associated with a lower incidence of CIN mortality. Some therapies like remote ischemic preconditioning have been reported and shown to reduce the incidence of CIN. The importance of CIN prevention strategies was addressed by almost all studies. Final Considerations: Contrast-induced nephropathy has become increasingly discussed, the relevance of its study lies in the face of the harm it can cause to patients, therefore, scientific research on preventive methods of CIN becomes effective for nephroprotection.
