Abstract
Objective: To determine the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D in patients with systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). Methods: Cross-sectional study realized from data collected between January and August 2019, through medical records of patients of both sexes, diagnosed with SLE and aged between 18 and 80 years and serum calcidiol (25(OH)D) dosage. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and chi-square (p<0.005). The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: There was a predominance of females 96.43% in our sample with a mean age of 48 ± 13 years. Only 32% of patients had adequate 25(OH)D values; The average concentration of 25(OH)D was 26.06 ng/dL. Conclusion: A high prevalence of inadequate levels of serum vitamin D was found both in patients with SLE and in the healthy population. This fact is relevant due to the existence of a specific recommendation for a higher value of vitamin D for patients with SLE, higher than that of the general population, and due to the peculiarity, that they have of not being able to expose themselves to sunlight.
