Abstract

Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of deaths associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in Paraíba from 2000 to 2019. Methods: Epidemiological study of the ecological type of time series, developed in november 2021, based on data from a secondary source, consisting of 2195 cases of deaths reported in the mortality information system that occurred in Paraíba, Brazil, from 2000 to 2019, related to the human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. An exploratory and inferential analysis was performed using the test of equality of proportions and the test of trend of proportions, using the r computer program. Results: The profile of mortality from the disease in Paraiba showed an increasing trend, with equality in the proportions of deaths for both genders, a growing trend in the brown race, and evidenced infectious and parasitic diseases with a growing trend in the number of deaths. Conclusion: The results suggest the need to organize the care network and qualify multidisciplinary care, in the face of controlling the growth of mortality, with a focus on prevention, timely diagnosis and management of infectious and parasitic diseases with care for the current epidemiological scenario.
