Abstract

Objective: To describe the case diagnosed as Antoni's Schwannoma type A in the left retro-orbital region and from a broad and critical literature discussion, we sought to address from diagnosis to therapy after the discovery of the Verocay Bodies. Case detail: Female patient, brown, 78 years old, with a complaint and ophthalmological diagnosis of amaurosis in the left eye, with an eight-year evolution. On physical examination, there was exophthalmos on the left, computed tomography of the orbit showing an image of an expansive lesion with medium attenuation of soft tissues, regular contours, partially defined, located in a retrobulbar intraconal situation on the left, measuring approximately 2.8x2.5x2.5cm, with moderate corresponding bulbar proptosis. Final considerations: The late diagnosis of retro-orbital schwannoma is directly correlated with a wide chain of signs and symptoms that corroborate a clinical picture of confusion and delay in diagnosis and treatment, where wide surgical excision continues to be the main approach.
