Abstract

Objective: To analyze the incidence of mortality from gastrointestinal tract cancer in Brazil, its socioeconomic and structural impacts in the most affected locations, the clinical-epidemiological profile of affected individuals and their relationship with risk factors during the period from 2000 to 2019. Methods: This is an observational and descriptive study carried out in regions, Federal Units (UF) and municipalities in Brazil, in the period between 2000 and 2019, according to socioeconomic characteristics, population lifestyle, clinical-assistance profile and occupational/environmental exposure, expressed in quantitative data under absolute (n) and relative (%) and qualitative. Results: The region with the highest prevalence and highest mortality rate was the South region. The variables “Smoking” and “Overweight” reached a Strong Correlation with the Mortality Rate and were statistically significant. The clinical-epidemiological profile describes men, over 60 years old, with no family history and whose primary site of cancer is the stomach. Conclusion: The findings were in line with the existing literature. The data found also point to risk factors, of which the variables "Alcohol consumption", "Smoking", "Excess weight" and "Obesity" reached a strong correlation with the highest mortality rate in the south and southeast.
