Abstract
Objective: To analyze Hospitalizations for Primary Care Sensitive Conditions (PCSCH) in children under one year old in Palmas, Tocantins, between 2008 and 2022. Methods: An ecological time series study was conducted using secondary data on PCSCH. The temporal trend analysis was performed using the Poisson regression model. Results: A total of 3,867 PCSCH were recorded. The hospitalization rate for some infectious and parasitic diseases showed stability in annual percent change (APC). The hospitalization rate for infectious diarrheas and gastroenteritis showed a significant decrease between 2011 and 2022 (APC: -6.3; CI: -12.1 to -0.2). The hospitalization rate for congenital syphilis increased significantly between 2008 and 2019 (APC: 21.1; CI: 8.8 to 34.8) but stabilized between 2019 and 2022 (APC: 8.4; CI: -4.7 to 23.4). The hospitalization rate for asthma showed a significant increase between 2008 and 2019 (APC: 17.2; CI: 7.9 to 27.4), with a significant decrease between 2019 and 2022 (APC: -63.8; CI: -86.9 to -0.1). Conclusion: Despite the reduction of PCSCH in several groups, they still represent a challenge for public health in Palmas. The lack of adequate management of primary care sensitive conditions can lead to complications and increased infant mortality.
