Abstract

Objective: To analyze the increase or decrease of psychotropic drugs used by academics during the pandemic of COVID-19. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective, quantitative study was conducted with nursing students enrolled in the 5th and 7th periods in the year 2021 of a private University Center in western Paraná. Data were collected using a virtual questionnaire (Google Forms) and the data obtained were sorted and analyzed using simple descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 74 students participated in the research, among which: 25.7% were infected by the new coronavirus; 48.6% evaluated their mental health as excellent and good. There was an increase in the high level of consumption of 2.7% in the consumption of alcohol and tobacco, 17.5% of sugar, 9.5% of caffeine, 8.2% of anxiolytics, 5.4% of antidepressants and sleep inducers. Cocaine use was zero and increased to low level, 1.8% of participants started using cannabis during social isolation. Conclusion: The increase in the consumption of psychoactive drugs reveals the need for further evaluation of the effects of their use during and after social isolation.
