Abstract

Objective: To describe the main hematological and biochemical alterations present in patients coinfected with COVID-19 and dengue in Brazil through a literature review. Methods: An integrative review was carried out from articles in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online database (MEDLINE via PUBMED). Articles between 2018 and 2022 were used and the following descriptors were used: laboratory parameters, hematology, biochemistry, dengue, COVID-19, co-infection by COVID-19 and dengue combined with Brazil. Results: 34 articles were selected with a focus on describing the main characteristics dengue and COVID-19 laboratory tests separately and co-infection cases. Final considerations: The main hematological and biochemical changes in patients with dengue are leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, increased hematocrit, ALT and AST. While in cases of COVID-19, the main findings are leukopenia, lymphopenia, increased D-dimer and ferritin. However, when analyzing cases of co-infection, it is possible to verify combined characteristics of both diseases, such as leukopenia, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, increase in ALT, AST, D-dimer, ferritin and LDH. However, new findings such as monocytopenia and increased glucose are also observed.
