Abstract
Objective: To report a case of behavioral variant Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) which not infrequently, is misdiagnosed and treated as it if Alzheimer's disease (AD). Clinical detail: This is a 65-year-old patient, who started with dementia in 2019, manifested by amnesia, irritability and loss of functionality associated with a sudden change in lifestyle (severe alcoholism and obstinacy/love addiction). At our first evaluation in 2021(Month), she had a previous diagnosis of AD being treated with a cholinesterase inhibitor (IChE) for about 1 year. However, with little or no response. After a detailed anamnesis, with psychometric scales administrated, neuroimaging and CSF analysis, it was verified that the main diagnostic hypothesis is DFT, making it possible, then, to think about a right diagnosis, adapting the therapy. Final considerations: AD and FTD may have similar clinical signs and cause doubt and misdiagnosis. Assertive management and treatment are essential because they are different in both cases. Therefore, making the correct diagnosis and treatment allows effective control of the signs and symptoms of these conditions.
