Abstract
Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations due to stroke in Sergipe during the period from 2009 to 2019. Methods: This is an epidemiological research, of the ecological type, of a descriptive nature, using secondary data of a documentary nature, through hospitalization authorizations (AIH) compiled in the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS), with data collected from the TABNET platform of the SUS Information Technology Department (DATASUS). A descriptive and comparative statistical analysis of the data was used, through absolute and relative numbers (proportion based on 100). Results: From 2009 to 2019, 343 hospitalizations for ischemic stroke were registered in the state of Sergipe, with an average of 31.18 hospitalizations per year. A total of 109 deaths were recorded in that period, with a total lethality rate of 31.78% and an average annual lethality of 34.69%. The total incidence was 15.67 hospitalizations for ischemic stroke per 105 inhabitants in Sergipe at the verified time. Conclusion: There was a significant increase in the annual number of hospitalizations due to stroke in Sergipe during the period evaluated, with an incidence in the capital Aracaju and in the closest regions.
