Abstract
Objective: To identify and analyze the epidemiological profile of cases of alcohol poisoning in individuals under 19 years old in Distrito Federal (DF), the country's capital and throughout Brazil, in order to enable the understanding of this condition. Methods: This study is a retrospective cross-sectional quantitative approach, with data collection from the Department of Health Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) between the years 2012-2022. Results: The DF presented a high number of cases of ethanol poisoning in individuals under 19 years old, with a considerable increase from 2018 onwards, despite the national trend of reducing notifications for this condition. The mortality data for the studied age groups remain low, both in the DF and nationally, as observed in other poisonings. Conclusion: The high notification rates associated with alcohol poisoning in minors in the Distrito Federal may be related to the local obligation to notify the DF guardianship council and Public Prosecutor's Office, established by district law in 2018, suggesting the importance of communication and case recording.
