Abstract
Objective: To identify the main findings of the clinical complications of appendicitis in the pregnancy-puerperal period and their implications for maternal-fetal health. Methods: This is an integrative literature review. For the formulation of the guiding question, the PICo strategy was applied: (P: People with a uterus in the pregnancy-puerperal period; I: Complications of appendicitis; Co: Clinical evaluation). The following databases were used: Embase, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and the Scientific Electronic Library Online virtual library. In the search, 3,438 articles were found, and of these, n=6 were part of the research. Results: Thus, it was evidenced that abdominal pain during pregnancy is a frequent reason that lead pregnant women to emergency consultations, however, despite the pain inherent to pregnancy, multiple etiologies can lead to an abdominal emergency. Final considerations: Thus, it is understood the need for a holistic assistance that directs a clear and reliable diagnosis of the clinical complications of appendicitis in patients who are experiencing the pregnancy-puerperal period. Furthermore, it is inevitable that there is a care plan so that health services are covered so that the full demands of these patients can be met, generating safety and confidence in the procedure performed, avoiding future damage.
