Abstract

Objective: Analyzing and comparing the personal and familial backgrounds of autistic patients through a sociodemographic questionnaire. Methods: Data collection occurred after appropriate recruitment and consent from selected patients and their legal guardians, using the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) to quantify the number of spectrum symptoms in each patient, and a sociodemographic questionnaire created from current literature to identify relevant risk factors in the participants' backgrounds. Results: The severity levels for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), established by clinical criteria in the DSM-V, generally coincided with the ABC score used to quantify the number of ASD symptoms in this study. Conclusion: It is concluded that the severity of autism symptoms can be influenced by various factors, including: family income, parental age, early gestational age, incidence of developmental regressions, type of delivery, parental education level, and stressors during pregnancy.
