Abstract
Objective: To observe and analyze the conception of knowledge about nosocomial infections. Methods: Theoretical study, integrative literature review type, conducted between April and October 2022, in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) data source and CAPES database, using the descriptors validated by DeCS/MeSH; Hospital Infection; Control; Bacterial Resistance, with the filters full text and available, documents type scientific articles; year of publication 2014 to 2022, performed in the Portuguese language. The research population included 18 articles related to the topic. After reading their abstracts, 15 articles were selected. Results: It is observed that there are several factors that favor patients to acquire hospital infections, such as age, clinical condition, length of hospitalization, inappropriate antibiotic application, length of surgical procedure, potential contamination of the procedures performed, immunodeficiency, presence of underlying diseases and the technical ability of the team providing the services. Concluding remarks: It should be understood that the phenomenon of bacterial resistance is not an individual problem, but a collective and worldwide one. Therefore, bacterial resistance to antibiotics represents a threat to the continuity of human life on Earth.
