Abstract
Objective: To verify the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among hypertensive patients in primary care and associated factors. Methods: Cross-sectional study, carried out with 424 hypertensive individuals followed by primary health care. Sociodemographic, clinical, laboratory and anthropometric data were collected. In the analysis, a Binary Logistic Regression model was used, with the use of the stepwise method to adjust the model. Results: There was a prevalence of 88% of metabolic syndrome among the participants. The female sex (p=0.013); non-elderly people (p=0.037); income of up to one minimum wage (p=0.029) and continuous use of other medications (p=0.000) were predictors of metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: The high prevalence of metabolic syndrome among hypertensive individuals and the association with clinical and socioeconomic factors reaffirm the impact of social determination on the health of the population. These results point to the need to redirect health promotion actions in primary care, especially in higher risk groups.
