Abstract

Objective: To identify, describe and compare studies related to the profile of patients infected with multidrug-resistant bacteria in Brazil. Methods: Integrative review carried out through the database PUBMED/MEDLINE, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Google Scholar, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and Network of Scientific Journals from Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal –; in the period of 2017 and 2021, using the descriptors bacterial resistance, antibiotics and profile domains; and profile, in English and Portuguese. Results: Eleven articles were selected, which presented profiles of patients with different characteristics peculiar to the type of infection caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria and with socio-demographic situations relevant to the process of colonization and contamination by these pathogens. Final considerations: Although the topic addressed is extremely important and affecting the various social classes, the literature addressed is still quite scarce and needs further research, however the analyzed articles indicate that in Brazil, the characteristics of patients infected with multidrug resistant bacteria were: female, infections caused by gram negative bacteria with extended spectrum for beta lactamase, especially E.coli; while among the gram positive, the coagulase negative Staphylococcus acted causing important antimicrobial resistance.
