Abstract
Objective: To report a rare case of tuberculosis of the female genital system simulating ovarian neoplasia. Case detail: The study reports a rare case of a 19-year-old girl with a history of pelvic mass, whose main diagnostic hypothesis was an ovarian tumor. The case had a serious outcome with the death of the patient and post-death histopathological diagnosis of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis affecting the ovary. Final considerations: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the etiological agent Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This report is of paramount importance due to the incidence of tuberculosis in Brazil, especially in the state of Amazonas, considered an endemic region. This disease has pulmonary tuberculosis as its main form of involvement, but it can compromise several compartments of the human body and should always be included as a differential diagnosis in uncertain cases of different pathologies due to the variable and nonspecific clinical presentation that it can present depending on the affected system. With accurate and early diagnosis, it is possible to change the prognosis of several patients since effective drugs against the bacillus are widely distributed in the Brazilian health system.
