Abstract
Objective: To analyze the impacts of dietary conditions on patients with diabetes. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted to answer the following question "What are the impacts of dietary conditions on people with diabetes?", by searching the online databases MEDLINE, LILACS and SCIELO, linked to PUBMED and BVS. Studies published between January 2017 and September 2022 were filtered using the descriptors "Diabetes Mellitus" and "Eating Behavior". Results: 783 papers were found, of which used 32 articles on the economic conditions, types of diet, different habits and influences of COVID-19 in patients with DM 2. It is deduced from the results that individuals in a state of food insecurity are the most susceptible to the increase in glycemic indices. Furthermore, it is observed that specific dietary patterns and eating habits actively influenced the patients' worsening or improvement. The COVID-19 scenario dramatically affected the routine of DM 2 patients, and despite improvements, there was no improvement in dietary quality overall. Final considerations: Through the present evidence, it is possible to develop public policies directed to diabetic adults for better management of this chronic disease.
