Abstract

Objective: To report the case of a 50-year-old patient with abnormal uterine bleeding for the past 5 years due to a cervical polyp. Case details: During consultation at a public referral hospital in the city of São Paulo, the polyp was visualized with macroscopic benign characteristics and a wide base near the endocervical canal. The first biopsy of the polyp was incorrectly diagnosed as a benign epithelial lesion without signs of malignancy. After complete excision of the polyp, Mullerian Adenosarcoma without sarcomatous growth component was diagnosed. The patient was then referred for definitive surgical treatment of hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy via minimally invasive approach.  Final considerations: Based on this study and literature review, there is no consensus on the optimal therapy for Mullerian Adenosarcoma of the cervix. Published data recommend hysterectomy, usually with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Due to the rarity of this pathology, it is believed that the accumulation of cases described in the literature may provide knowledge about its ideal therapy and prognosis.
