Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile and otorhinolaryngological manifestations found in seropositive patients in Western Bahia. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, qualitative and quantitative study. We analyzed 100 medical records of seropositive patients, aged between 18 and 75 years, who were treated at a health center of medium complexity in the West of Bahia, chosen at random. Results: A higher incidence of seropositive patients was observed in males, aged between 36 and 50 years, with no significant difference between education level, and in heterosexuals. Most have been diagnosed for more than 5 years and use antiretroviral medication, with an undetectable viral load. When analyzing the otorhinolaryngological manifestations, there is a prevalence of Adenomegaly (11) and Oroesophageal Candidiasis (7), followed by Rhinosinusitis (5) and Odynophagia (5), not being these the reason for the diagnosis of HIV infection. Conclusion: We concluded that the otorhinolaryngological manifestations were present in less than half of the patients, which could range from acute infection to advanced stages of the disease. The changes described may represent important clinical markers, as well as treatment failure with antiretroviral medication.
